i agree with mud. i only use canned fixes as a temporary solution to limp the truck to the shop, and only as a last resort. the way i see it, it's not supposed to be in there, and theres no way to know exactly how its going to react with other foreign materials that might ALREADY be in the system (IE sediment buildup in your cooling system can turn leakstop into a very effective form of concrete).

Great advice Lukas, I would recommend the same myself. I don't like to mess with additives too much because they don't fix anything! They are just temporary bandaids good for getting you out of a quick pinch as a last resort. They can and will do more damage than good in the long run.

The only additive I advocate the use of is Seafome through the brake booster and gas tank and only when necessary. That depends on the vehicle and the type of driving it sees as well (highway vs city).

As far as Seafome in the trans, I've heard of it but never dared to try it. Transmissions are very finicky and complicated. Each manufacturer creates their own type of ATF for their transmissions and they all specify not to use any other oil other than what they authorize. Catastrophic transmission failure is always a risk when straying from these instructions. As **** as we all are with the types of oils we run: weight, synthetic or not, brand, etc... why would you risk further damage to your transmission by using a product not designed specifically for it.

While Seafome is tried and true in my eyes as far as a carbon deposit remover for your engine, I still wouldn't go near the transmission with it. Steve if it is only doing this while shifting into drive I would definitely look into the shifting linkage, something may be loose here not allowing it to slip into gear properly. If it continues to show any difficulty shifting up or down through the gears once in drive then I would take it to a reputable shop and not lay another hand on it myself.Just my 2cents...

Maybe some day when I can afford to blow up a transmission without cringing at the costs involved in repairing it I'll become a bit more experimental...
