| How Serious could a problem be that causes code P1744 from my 2001 Lincoln Navigator? The transmission fluid level is fine. |

| It still goes into lockup just fine. The code happened when traveling 75 mph and the OD Off lamp started blinking. Also when coming to a toll booth after the code happened the engine died but started just fine. Then later after turning off and starting the engine the lamp stopped blinking. After all this we completed a 300 mile plus road trip without any more strange occurances. Before the trip we have been noticing an intermittant slip when taking off from a stop. Felt like having one foot on the brake the other on the gas. Would usually do this after backing up then going to drive. |

| hmm, maybe the TC was stuck in lock up and caused the engine to stall if this was a one time occurance. ![]()

| A mechanic told me the same thing. The hesitation or slipping has him wondering what is going on.

| Seems to me the TC is starting to show problems; the flashing OD switch is a telltale sign of this I believe. I wouldn't be surprised if your TC took a dump on you in the somewhat near future. Its usually best to address any tranny problems as soon as they show themselves otherwise they have a tendency to break more components on their way out or cause further damage over time. I'm not a transmision guy or anything but I have heard plenty of horror stories to steer me in this direction. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable about these transmissions can provide further input but if it were my truck, I would have it looked at by a reputable transmission shop.
