I agree with this also. If he over or under tightened the pinion bearing it could very well be the cause of the whine. I have never dealt with any of the shops that you listed but My buddies dad has a shop over in the willowbrook area. I'm sure he could help you out.

that would be the bon fire that we plan on lighting tonight. here shortly, i have got to go fire up the pit and maybe get some morning chores finished before it reaches the cooking temps. and i dont mean the pit.

OH!!! do you haul a woman around in the bed of your truck? my wife was in the bed of my truck today, and I started to hear a whine whine whine about 30 mph...... of course, It wasn't quite the same as a gear problem.....

Hey Brad. I took the truck to 249 Drivetrain in Houston this morning, and Allen said it was the differential. He also said the mechanic probably set the preload on the pinion bearing too high and it was beginning to cause wear on the gears. He hadn't opened up the pumpkin at that time, but he will begin work on it today and I'll keep you updated.
