F150 Smog pump

I am passing this along from someone who has an 1983 F-150, but no computer:
The fanbelt runs the A/C, smog pump, alternator, and fan. If he takes out the smog pump, will he still have enough power to run the to run the other 3?

it will still run if that is what you are asking. it might even run better. smog systems on carbed systems did have a tendency to create problems especially on nissan products. however, if this person lives in a smog controlled county or state, will not be able to pass the test without the pump being hooked up. realisticily, according to texas law, the pump must be in visable working order just to pass the safety inspection. do they check it here?? no. but i am just giving you a heads up.

Should be no problems at all with removing it if anything he may notice an increase in performance as Brad mentioned.

Just make sure he gets a smaller belt to compensate for the removed component or run an idle pulley in place if he wants to keep the same belt. Without doing either he will have problems acquiring enough tension with the original belt I would imagine...
