2004 F250 6.0 Diesel Brake lights go on and off when parked

Hi all,

I have a alittle prob that's making me nuts. Yesterday my batteries were dead. My neighbor mentioned to me that he noticed that my rear brake lights (plus the one over the rear cab) would go on for several minutes then turn off. This would repeat itself. I charged the battery and noticed last night that the brake lights would indeed go on an off...

I do not have the anti theft feature. I always have the light switch in the "auto mode" so they turn on and off when it senses darkness etc. I tried turning the switch to the manual off position but the brake lights still would still mysteriously go on and off. The only thing I can think of is that I have a 'brake buddy" for pulling my travel trailer. Wondering if it could be related to this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I would look into a short in your trailer plug (corrosion, water...etc) or brake controller first.

Could be you have a shorted brake light switch. Try unplugging it. Located on the brake pedal under the dash. You might try just wiggling the brake pedal to see if if affects brake light operation.

quickest way to rule it out is to pull the fuse for it or unplug it

my vote would be the brake controller.

my controller shorted out on me and caused the same problem. unplugged the controller and problem solved.
