Angry 1999 Ford Ranger problem

Ok, the truck has 115k+ miles on it. 2.5L fuel injected. Its a good truck though until it started doing what it was doing.

Everytime I crank it up now, it seems like it wants to stall. The amp gauge needle goes down and the truck goes dead. I crank it up again and just lay it to the gas and then it does it again. Then finally I just add a little gas to it then back up. Then it was to shake a little and put put and it made a little backfire noise and shut off. Crank it up again. Floored it. Put it in first, and gave it gas. Acted like it wanted to go dead because it started moving like a turtle and didn't want to go. So I kept laying it to the gas and it finally moved on up and went on.

I don't know what it could be. The spark plug wires seemed to be on good and all of the little vaccum lines are hooked up and all of the sensors.
I've been taking the battery out of it and using it on my tractor but then hook it back up. I tried to tighten up the battery post, I have to beat the hot post on and try to tighten up the ground but they seem to make good connection with the battery.

My brother told me he thinks it is the electric choke. I don't know.

Any ideas?

Thanks

First I would battery wires, clean the battery posts and the wire connections and refit and the ground where it bolts to the engine.
Second I would pull the vacuum pipe off the fuel pressure regulator and see if you can smell gas, if you can then replace the FPR.
