Question the truck I look at to day

so I look at this 2003 f-350 7.3L Diesel . the little computer shad the was 13.5 avg mileage/gallon and the other mode shad 17 avg. what does this mean? does it get 13.5 mpg or 17 mpg?

overall mpg and real time mpg is what i would assume. one measures it over the life of truck and the other is a guesstamit of what the truck is currently doing.

13.5 is the average mpg that is currently gets. 17mpg is what the mfgr estimates you will get depending on driving, conditions, wear and tear, etc....

don't trust the little computer. Always best to calculate by hand.

Depending on the gearing that thing could get anywhere form 15 to 20+ MPG

my F-350 dually with 4:10 gears averages 15.5. I know several people with F350's with 3:73 gears that get 20, 21, 22 mpg

figure it up by the mileage and consumtion is the only way to get it right, and even then its not perfect bc you're mileage wont be dead on. but close enough. thats a good truck by the way
