No muffler and you can still hear it?? And now the truck won't run? Sounds like a bearing to me... either a crank bearing or a rod.

If the guys who design 'em had to take one home, use it every day for 2 years, and do all the maint and repairs themselves, cars would have a button on the dash to change the oil, filters & plugs.

it runs just fine....it only happens when the truck is in motion...if you just rev it in nuetral it dosent happen

Ah, okay... the way you said it earlier it sounded like you were saying the truck stopped running, not just the noise.

oh my bad...but it runs fine, when you have it in drive or reverse you hear the tick if its just in nuetral you dont hear it....

exactly what i was going to suggest, my ranger does the same thing. small crack in the exhaust manifold. check your exhaust thoroughly and see if you find something. at 20,000 miles its a little early for cracking from fatigue, but its definitely a possibility!
