Question Ticking Noise from Regulator

Hello,
I've recently started to try to get our old 1978 Ford f100 going. It has been parked for about 2 years. And no, we did not drain or do anything when we parked it. It had a leak in the fuel pump and we were afraid it would catch on fire. I've put a new battery in it and now when it wont turn over. After a few tries we get a loud ticking noise comming from the Electronic Regulator. I put in a new regulator from our parts car and it does the same thing. Does anyone have an idea on what it is?

Remember those ole timers need all the crank amps possible!

Clean the negative ground on the block
Check those cables, if they are rusted inside the casing of wire. Replace them.
Then check the grounds on the starter also the hot legs. Sounds like a loose wire or bad one. I've seen those starter lock up after sitting.

Also does it have another solenoid on the starter. Check that also. Seen the posts rot the palstic off the the outer casing. Looses amps that way.

zembonez will become famous soon enough
Starter could be stuck. Armatures that are worn can corrode and stick in place when an older vehicle is parked for a long time. Might be simple as tapping on it with a hammer or you might have to pull it off. Like chickenbone says, check the cables and connections first.

Thank you,
It actually was a bad battery. It wasn't holding its charge, so it wouldn't turn over. Now that I have a new one in, I can get it to turn over. Now it's just a matter of getting it started
