which 351?? funny you mention this swap. very few people out there that is willing to trade out the bullet proof 300 for a 351 unless they have something hot going back in.

i was gunna put a windsor in it. well the reason im looking to swap is because the l6 isnt cutting it for towing. cant really haul a skidloader to well with and other farm equipment. i though about just buyin another truck. but cant really afford it

Whoa Nelly. Hold up. This is not the same swap as an 82. Easily done in an 82, not so easily done in a 95. The 82 was a non computer carbed set up, the 95 is multi port EFI. Other things to be considered here. Harnesses, ECM etc. I am with Brad on this one, and Case's other suggestion of just getting another truck. That long stroke 300 is usually a good pulling motor. I had a 96 F-150 300 5 Speed and pulled a 16 tandem axle trailer full, high and tight, 6ft tall front to back full of computer cases and the bed 4ft tall high and tight. It was a load. The bumper about 8 inches off the ground and I carried that load from Phoenix, AZ to OKC, OK. Used 4th gear alot and got down to 40mph climbing some of the hills, but it did it fine, and I don't think a 302 or 351W would have done a whole lot better. Sure it may have been a tad better, but not worth the expense and headache. Whats the condition of your 300? Maybe its time to be freshened up. If its in good shape and not cutting the mustard, I think its time to upgrade trucks. Sounds like you need a 3/4 ton. Also to mention, rear end gear ratio. You may get a bigger gain by going to a lower ratio. A 3.54 or 3.73 should do better if that is not what you have now. I can not see putting a 4.10 in a half ton, but if its what you have to do, then its whats you have to do. I think you might be considering the wrong upgrade.

yea i like the idea of regearin it. alot less headache. and for the shape of the motor it just turned over to 133000.so id say the motors still in good shape sense its a 300. i just figured its pretty hard on it pullin skidloaders all the time and hay wagons and stuff like that. ive been thinking about it and i might just try an find another truck with a 351 to run back an forth between the barn and keep this truck nice. plus haulin the cow trailer with 3 cows it kinda lugs down a bit up over the hills out here. it only to 25- 35 over the hills out here unless i really beat on it.

now that i look back, we may haved jumped the gun here. he never did say which 351 he is wanting to go with. there is a good differance in a windsor and clev.

Good Point BH. I have always been a fan of small blocks for some reason. Of course now in the older days and the big blocks disappearing now I want to go big cubes in my older projects. But, in this case, I think the 351w may not be the wise choice IF he chooses to upgrade the engine. As far as towing power (TORQUE), the longer stroke 351c would probably be the better choice, but keep in mind, he is dealing with an injected computer controlled motor, so I think that limits him to the 351w does it not? I am not all up on my #'s on Fords. I think I still like the regearing of the rear end idea better. Mulitply the torque of the 300 I6 would sure make an improvement.

no, the clevs didnt have FI back then but who says you cant fabricate a way to do it. really dont know what i would choose between a 300 and 351 windsor. both haev advantages.
