HP question

Ok...here is the deal...

My wife is getting a new 09 F250 Super duty 4x4 lariat soon and we went over to BNC Offroad to tell them what she wanted to do to it.

Other than the obvious the guy told us a list of things that he would do to the engine that would add another 300hp but I cant recall everything he said....not to mention im new at this, and havn't messed with truck engines for a good while....SO

My question is: What engine/gear mods will need to be done in order to tach on an extra 300 HP?

Other than that we are going to do the following:
-22" custom third coast suspension lift
-49" Irok Swampers on 22x12 Black Rockstar XD775
-Black RBP grill w/ rivit studs
-Twin 7" Mitred Stacks behind cab in back
-Road Armor Stealthbase with pre-runner gaurd in front
-Road Armor Stealthbase rear bumper
-Warn 16.5 on front
-Warn 9k on back
-Black 4" fender cutouts
-Automatic fold down steps
-13' touch screen in front middle fixed as
radio/dvd/cd/mp3
-Screen drop-down in center of back ceiling
-4 JL 13.5 Subs under and behind back seats
-Alarm system of coarse
-and the above engine modifications to add the 300hp the owner of B and C was telling us

The truck is going to be deep blue and the bumpers, wheels, under-carriage/lift, exhaust stacks, and fender cut-outs will all be black powder coated

We are also considering lockers and maybe a front axel upgrade from a dana 60 to a dana 80

I think thats about all...I would appreciate any critique of what I have discribed...but as far as look goes this is what my wife wants...im just trying to tweak it here and there.

What is your intentions with this truck? Are you planning on making it a mudder / trail rig, or a mall crawler?? Taking a brand new truck into the mud or on a trail takes allot of testicular fortitude...

Locker's aren't necessary if all you're doing is jumping curbs and hondas at the local mall and aren't recommended for the front on pavement (unless you have a selectable). Also, you could get away with less lift and still fit those tires if you want, just gonna take some more fender hacking, but it will look cleaner IMO and keep your COG at a much safer level.

With that high of a lift I would definitely suggest trac / ladder bars to minimize axle wrap and a high steer conversion to assist your geometry. If its the CC LB or one of the other combo's that gets you the two piece rear drive shaft you're going to need to shim your carrier bearing as well as extend your front drive shaft (maybe the rear too with that much lift, not sure) as well as re-route / extend your brake lines, but I imagine that will be taken care of with the lift by BNC.

With that big of a tire I would start looking at improving the breaking system as well, I'm partial to the cryo rotors and Hawk LTS pads, they can really stop these superduties. I would also look into re-gearing your diffs front and back to a lower (higher #) gear to give you back your low end torque as well as lessen the stress put on your drive train by those monster sneakers... How low a gear is dependent on your engine.

I'm hoping this truck is equipped with the 6.4L diesel? If you're trying to gain around 300 HP a tuner w/ a GOOD custom tune will get you there. These 6.4's can crank out 500+ RWHP off of just a custom tune. Go for bigger injectors and modding the turbos and the #'s jump drastically from there. Also with the stacks, might as well do a header back exhaust system in a 4"+ diameter pipe along with an aftermarket intake (AEM Bruteforce Dry filter element works GREAT for these guys).

The dynatrack freespin kit would be a good upgrade for your axles to help prolong their life against those 49's. Myself I would run 2.5 tons with that big of a tire, assuming you will be wheeling the thing.

If equipped with a gasser I hope you got the V10! Will take more work / $$ to get it that 300+ HP but it's cheaper than getting a 5.4 there... let us know more specifics about the truck and what the intended use is and I'm sure we can help you out further.

to the above statement in red, that is not completely accurate. While you can drastically increase HP with a GOOD tune, I have not seen it done with just that. You will need to delete the DPF (if it has one) and add an aftermarket air filter to hit over 500 with a tune, but that is all you have to do. A good intake, exhaust and tune and that baby will be 500 at the wheels with no problems!

To The OP, i'm not sure what the guy is talking about doing to add 300 HP. There are some BIG tunes out there that could possibly hit those numbers but it would be highly doubtful on tune alone. I've only seen a few 6.4's out there that have custom cam work and turbo work, cause honestly unless you are building an all out drag truck or sled puller you don't need them...

With a good spartan tuner (google them) and dpf delete and air intake you will be pleasantly satisfied.

My apologies, Mr Wayne is correct, I've been reading allot about the new 6.7 scorpion comming out and got them mixed up (in my defence I replied before my morning cup of Joe).

A custome tune from a reputable tuner (ie Eric from Innovative) can get you in the mid 400's. A DPF delete and an intake on top will jump you darn near 600, that easy. I spend allot of time on mainly diesel F350/250 forums and there are some guys doing some outrageous things, here's a dyno result from a member doing exactly what was stated above, Intake, custome tune (done by Eric), and DPF delete:

6.4 almost 600 on just a tuner and intake. - Southern California Power Strokes

Gene on Southern California Powerstrokes just blew up his 6.0 in the one and only custom built Stroked Lightning and is gearing up a 6.4 to drop in instead (yes its a pure race truck). That thing is a monster and nothing short, check out the website if you get a chance, they are a wealth of powerstroke knowledge, my handle is the same there as it is here.

I would personally say stay away from Spartan tunes. I've had no direct interaction with them but those I know that have suggest Eric over him regularly.

tuned the new truck! - Southern California Power Strokes

Post #7 and 9 mention Spartan and the variances evident in his tunes. I can assure you the individuals making the comments are quite informed and knowledgeable.

Here's another truck running all the above(Spartan Tune) + Nitrous and hits 700 RWHP!!! (2k build cost)
Ran on the dyno today!! - Southern California Power Strokes

There's allot you can do to those 6.4's for relatively cheap too!!

Price is not an option with this truck as my wife's father is paying for it and its mainly for looks though i want it totally modded out power wise(at least for the time being). We plan on keeping this truck for 20 years +...by then i'll be running it through swamps and such...but now we just want it to be loud, strong, and pretty.

thanks for all of your help, i will email the guy and ask him what he would do specifically to the engine, gears, diffs, and tranny and i will get back to you....

regards
