What is usually cause of trans failure in explorer?

Me and my Girlfriend have been looking at a lot of SUV's here lately and she ran across a 00 Explorer limited she really liked. Now I'm typically a Ford man myself but I'm not to impressed with the Ford Explorers track record on transmissions. This Explorer runs real nice & quiet, shifts pretty smooth but to me seems like shift points are a little close together from 2nd to 3rd. But again I've never driven an explorer.

Anyhow back to my original ? Do explorer transmissions usually typically fail from bad parts or would you say it's probably related to how it's been driven & maintained ?

If it's shifting good would it be good preventitive maintance to flush it out and change filter followed by refilling it with a nice synthetic trans fluid like amsoil?

If they just used junk parts i'd rather not waste my money and risk it expecially in this current econemy.

Thanks Chad

I am normally a die hard GM fan myself, and I can't say I am extremely impressed with its Tahoe, 1/2 ton truck trans either. Who does make a good transmission these days for a full size truck. Noone really in the 8600 GVWR and below. As far as close together on the shift, is by any chance it s a 5 or 6 speed auto? IF so that is likely why. I rode in a girls Toyota the other day. Geez, I was about to ask is she hits a jake brake to slow down. Seems like it shfted alot. Actually it did not feel bad and is not normally noticeable to most people, but its just me, I subconciously listen to engine and trans and noticed the shift point were very close.
