460 swap in my 79 Ford F150 4X4

Just bought this 460 (which is out of a 71 Lincoln-I think) but was in a mid 80s FORD F250 4X4 for $500.

It cranked up and ran good (but they didn't have a radiator but they didn't run it that long plus it doesn't have a oil cap as you may can tell...looks pretty sludgy (probably didn't spell that right)...needs some Penzoil.

It has oil coming out around the distributor...
It has a Motorcraft 4 barrel carburetor on it.

I have some questions.

1)What would I need to do this swap?
2)Will my 351M/400 radiator keep this engine cool?
3)What oil should I use?

Awesome. Hopefully some Ford Guru will answer your questions soon. What I want a picture of, is that Midland going overboard into a large body of water. Or scrap metal. Put it out of its misery so noone else can use it.

what engine was in your 79 , if yours was a 351/400 you will need the trans mission for the 460 , if the radiator is in good shape it should be ok
i always used 10w40 in my 460

The car manifolds are different from the truck manifolds. Please do not do what a lot of back yard hick idiots do and notch the frame so it fits. Get the correct manifolds or headers.

Oh, and keep in mind you have a half ton with half ton suspention. Plus, it is what, thirty something years old? That is a heavy engine so be prepared for some issues under it.

This truck is manual trans isn't it Erwin? All you need then is the bell housing. Or was just a thread you were going to convert? I forget now.

My truck has a 351M/400 with a c6 automatic tranny. I'm keeping the c6 due to the "cushion" as someone mention to me.

My suspension is pretty heavy duty. two shocks and a huge spring on the front (shock-big heavy duty spring-shock). So that may not be a problem.

Lol, HOTROD. Them 351m/400m can be fixed up to put out some serious hp if you get rid of the smog ****...I've read some articles on it.

Lonesome, I don't think these are car manifolds since it came out of a 86 f250 4x4, but the right engine mount was welded from what we saw. You may be right though, it may be a car manifold(s).

9 times out of 10 when I have found a 460 swapped into a truck from a car, that is what I have found. Hopefully you got lucky and the previous owner had enough since to install the correct manifold.

Might make some hp, but it won't make much torque, and it won't stay together long. Yahcht Anchor. Now that you got that 460, I won't hurt your feelings bagging on that 351M.
