1999 F250 super duty

Hey
I am new to the forum, and need help. My Truck is not shifting into gears. It stays in first gear. It's a V-10 automatic gas.

Well you've got yourself the 4R100 Automatic Trans found in the earlier superduties. They are a little weak from the factory and are known to give out a little early in these trucks but with some mods they can be made to last.

As far as specifically what is wrong with it I have no clue, I'm still learning about transmissions but hopefully someone else can chime in with some more detailed info for you.

Good luck with the fix and don't let it get you down, these trucks are beasts once you've addressed the very few weak points (tranny included).

If you're referring to the code readers to diagnose the check engine light then any standard obdII port code reader will do. Harbor Freight has them on sale every now and then. I forget how much but anywhere from $15-30 is normal.

If you need to diagnose ABS codes and the like then a full on scan tool will do. I don't know much about them but I've heard something about usually requiring additional software packets specifically for the superduties. Maybe someone else can chime in here...
