Why do you think you have to change the gears?
I was thinking of the difference of top rpm

The only reason I could see you changing gears is if the 460 you throw in wasn't making near enough torque as the 6.9 to suit your needs... in which case you would have to regear lower...

Lonesome... I aspire to be like you some day

It all depends on what your goal is for the truck. I love big block power, but not in a truck I drive daily and pull trailers with. Besides, there are so many power adders now even for the older desiels they can put out like a big block.

Careful eponator, that might happen.

I'd say you gear ratio is going to be just fine if you do indeed go with the 460. Plenty of bottom end torque with all those cubes. If L73 is suggesting a 7.3 would botl right in, that is what I'd be doing. STROKIN !!! Stroke it to the left, Stroke it ..... nevermind, I never was good at singing. Oh, and welcome to the fourm !!!

Well, I was talking about the older 7.3 IDI. A Stroke will take a lot more work becuase of the wireing harness. However, it just so happens I have a complete harness avaiable for sale. It came off a 95 Powerstroke.
