F-350 gears

So i am planning on buying some new rims and tires for my truck. currently i have 35 inch tires but they look too small for my truck. so i plan on buying new procomp series8179 rims 16x10. and i want probly some 37x13 super swamper boggers. if not those then ill probly get some 36s. so my question is....what gear ratio would i need and about how much would it cost? i dont know too much about the gearing in trucks so thats why im wondering. and would affect what i need if i have 37s or 36s. so any info is helpfull. My truck is a 2000 Ford F-350 4x4 7.3L diesel. lemme know!

You most likely have the factory 3.73 in there right now but they also came with the 4.10 or even the 4.30 if your lucky. The tag on the axle or the door jamb will tell you what you got. If you have anything but the 4.30 I'd recommend a 4.56 gearset with the 37's otherwise I'd just stick with the 4.30, it wouldn't be worth the cost of the swap.

36's will just run your RPM's a little higher than with 37's and 4.56 but only by a small amount. You will feel it in the seat of your pants guaranteed especially if you have the 3.73 now.

ya i read the little manual and it said it should have 3.73 i didnt check the tags.so your saying that i should get 4.56...and that if i get 36s it will push my rpm a little higher right? i am most likely getting 37s. 36s were my second option. how much do you think it will cost?

The vin number will tell you. i have had to call Ford dealer ships and give them the VIN to find out what size came on the truck I was working on. Do that math equation and take the guess work out of it.

Stockers are 31" tires I believe. For a Superduty to have both diff's regeared at a shop I've seen it quoted around $1200 a few times.

If you are patient and pay attention to ebay and Craiglsit and what ever other classified you have access to you will find gears and install kits at good prices. I have done that and shaved severl hundred off at a time. Also, spend the money and get the book and dials so you can set the gears up yourself. The labor is what drives up the cost on re-gearing.

appearance wise, there is almost no difference in 35s and 36s so upgrading one inch is going to costs you alot for something that you may not be able to notice. by the time you reconfigure the speedo and gear ratio, new wheels and tires, what have you actually gained?? 1 in maybe. just because it says it is a 37in tire, doesnt mean that it is 37. with thread, it maybe 36.8 and when worn down, you are back at the 36 mark. again, gaining 1 inch. if you are upgrading to 4.56 gears, i would go up to a bigger tire. it is not like those 1 ton axles are not going to stand up to the larger tire.
