| oil usage O.k. i have a 1989 f250 with a 460 with 72000 miles on it and i'm going thru about 2 quarts of oil about every 200 miles i don't have any leaks or do not see it burning it so my question is where is it going. i put a new pcv valve in it and today i did a compression check and all cylinders were at 160psi does anybody have any ideas? thanks |

| You're sure you're not leaking? Anything coming out of your exhaust (run your finger around inside the pipe, if it's oily then there's your prob)? You're sure it's only 72k not 172 or 272? if it's an '89 with 72k then thumbs up to you!!!! My truck had that problem ('82 f-150 6 cyl) it was shootin oil out the exhaust...bad piston rings or something like that..it was 4 years ago. Maybe it's just burnin off. My mom's 460 burns oil like ******** crazy!!

| no it's only got 72000 miles, the exhaust is black when you run your finger around it but it does'nt seem to be oily, when your driving down the road it does'nt smoke a bit and there is no leaks. i think this weekend i'm going to tear the intake off and do valve seals to. i'm stumped don't know what else to do.
