Ford from 40's and 50's

Does anybody on here have any classic Fords from the 40's and 50's, my dad used to have a 1954 that he drove back and fourth to work and to hual garbage and stuff, I dont remember it to well as I was a baby, I think he said it had a flathead in it, dont know if it was the six or eight. He said it was really dependable, never had any problems with it hardly. Does'nt surprise me though knowing it was a Ford, witch my parents never had any trouble with there fords hardly ever. The Fords from the 50's are awesome looking to me though, the 49 I belive is another awesome year. Love the front end on that truck.

LOL! funny, Did you know though that back in those days the Ford Flathead 8 was the hotroders favorite, Chevy did'nt become a major favorite until they introduced there overhead valve engine and thats because it's so much cheaper to build up, Sorry Ford is number 1 in flatheads but yet I really belive they are number 1 period. I belive it was the 30's and 40's when Ford was a favorite for hot rodding, then chevrolet came out with there overhead valve V-8.

Once the small block chevy hit the scene the old flathead was obsolete though.

Yeah, to alot of the newer guys, you still have some out there that are old school that like these though. I see they are making all kinds of aftermarket parts for the old Ford Flatheads, as a matter of fact I got a Hotrod magazine awhile back that had a large article about them, I belive there is a company that still makes them. You would have to be old school though. Me, I like both. But nastolgic hotrods are my favorite.

There are always gonna be a nostalgic era behind those, but they are out to pasture as far as performance is concerned. They get used just for sake of having one. But most popular motor for an old coupe or something is a small block chevy.

I agree with you chevyguy, the small block Chevy does seem to be the hotroders favorite as of right now. Most hotrods I see have small block chevys in them. ocassionally you will see a Ford plant, it would be nice if they would come down on the price of the parts for the Fords, I could never understand why they are so much higher. Thats the main reason the chevy is so popular, you get good horsepower for a cheaper price.

Yes there is price and also so many parts that interchange that makes them even more desirable. You can stroke and bore, mix and match and end up with almost any size small block you want. Best engine design ever.
