Arrow Transmission fluid??

I have a 1995 Ford Ranger with a 5 speed manual transmission. I need to change the fluid in my Transmission however, the haynes manual I have says to fill it with automatic transmission fluid. I thought it would be more like a gear oil or something i needed to fill it with? What have you guys all used to fill your manual transmissions?

Hypoid gears, Go with ATF, this is a common mistake that costs alot of money in transmission repairs.

Yep the newer trannies (manuals) have tight tolerances and require a thinner than gear oil lube in them. I have used ATF in a 2000 Ford focus manual(friends car), heavy duty diesel 5w30 in the same tranny (differant car), and recently put some Amsoil Synthetic 5w30 (made for Manual transmissions, a fairly new product)Syncromesh Fluid in my personal Ford Focus.

I first out the recomended 75w80 into the 2000 focus and she could not shift the car at all, she has to use 2 hands to get it to the next gear. Switch her over to the ATF and she was back to normal or slightly better than before the gear lube swap.
