89 150 302 2wd atx problems! help!

in park and neutral the motor idles pretty high, what could cause this? i have allready sprayed brake clean on whatever vacuum connections i could get to. idle only drops when i shift it to drive or reverse.

also, i suspect that my front u joint is going as whenever the truck is in drive or reverse and at a standstill, i hear a popping noise occasionally. it's isolated within the driveline and mouder up front cuz of the echoing effect with the sound traveling through the driveshaft.

also the whole truck shakes pretty bad whenever it upshifts into 3rd gear. also shakes really bad when i'm slowing down and it tries to downshift. i'm having to throw it into neutral so the tranny won't shake the truck so bad.

thanks!.

oh, sorry. EFI, fuel injected.

i've adjusted the TB screw and the idle has dropped a little. when i shift it into drive or reverse the motor kinda almost seems to want to stall out a little, but doesn't.

is there a how-to on how to set ignition timing?

thanks.

no sir. no check engine light. that's what's making me really confused.would there be a transmission light coming on for the AOD tranny if/when it senses trouble?both the motor and trans has recently been rebuilt and seviced. the engine oil and trans fluid look brand new.

390FE will become famous soon enough
Did you buy this off a lot. I am quessing not due to its age, but if you did bring it back and see what they can do for you. If not try to get a free diag somewhere. A good tech should be able to drive it for about 5 minutes and have a "good idea" of whats going on with it.

Do you have receipts on the rebuilds. If they rebuilt it a shot while ago they should still have them. If not I would question the rebuilds IMO.

I can tell you that is is normal for the motor to idle higher in N or P than in D. This is because there is no strain on the system. Put the truck in D and it wants to go but the brakes are keeping it from moving so the motor lugs a bit. you U joint arn't movign untill the truck moves, there is strain on them when in D tho.

Have you checked the voltage on the TPS?

i bought it on auction. i was surprised that i didn't get any documentation with the truck. i found a for sale sign under the bench seats that had the previous owners phone # and it said that the motor and trans were rebuilt. other than that, i have no receipts or proof of anything. i'm thinking of calling that number up and find out what problems he had with it before he got rid of it.

what should the reading on the TPS be if it's good?

i'm hoping that the trans and motor mounts are bad causing the shaking and noises.

thanks!

i'm not fluent on ford trucks so please excuse the newb questions.
