Question 97 4.2 v-6 conversion

I have a 97 f-150 with a 4.2 v-6. Will a 3.8 mustang engine interchange with this?

Not without alot of fabrication. Different blocks and the 3.8 was junk to begin with. Great boat anchors though. Get another 4.2 and stay away from the 3.8

either stay with the 4.2 or you can upgrade to the 4.9..they are a very reliable motor...a 300 has alot of torque and they dont get theat bad of gas mileage...like i said very reliable!

4.2 to a 4.9 is an expensive swap , Trans has to be changed also. i dont recommend it.

390FE will become famous soon enough
OK... I'm here thinking that the 4.2 is marginal for use in a full size truck and why would someone want to swap in a smaller motor that would underpower the truck????????

Than I'm thinking there is severe problems with the current 4.2 and the 3.8 can be had dirt cheap or free. But still, why swap to a smaller motor.
