colocat is on a distinguished road
rear main oil seal 2000 f-250 super duty

mine is leaking ,have any of you replaced this seal ?did you go through a dealer and if so how much am i looking at it costing or can i do it myself .it has a auto transmission . thanks

depends on if it is a 1 piece or 2 piece. take it to a dealer if it is a 1 piece, involves dropping trans. alot of work unless you know someone who has a lift. if it is a 2 piece then drop the pan and unbolt the cap, you may have to unbolt the motor mounts and lift the engine to get the pan out. push the old seal out with a dowel or old chop sticks makeing sure not to scratch the block or the journal. make sure everything is clean before re-installing everything. torque the cap bolts to specs or you'll ruin your engine over time.

pan gasket and seal cost around 25-50 dollars.

well it turned out not to be the rear main it was the gaskets on the oil pump
