door ajar on a 1999 f250 supercab

Hey guys, my f250 supercab has a door ajar light that stays on. Also, the dome light has blown. I assume from being constantly turned on. Each of the main doors mate up to a lever switch in the rear access doors. When I open the drivers door, I get the chime sound. When I close it, the chime goes away, but the door ajar indicator stays on. So, I assumed it is the passenger side lever switch.
But, if I open the drivers door, and manually close the drivers side lever switch with my hand, the door ajar chime stays on. THis tells me, there must be more than 1 door switch for each side. Is this right? If I am right, each side has a lever switch, plus a second switch. (perhaps it is mounted inside one the doors.) It just seems strange to me, that I can close the drivers door and the chime turns off. If I leave the door open, and close the lever with my hand.... the door chime stays on. It appears more than 1 switch is used for each side. Does that make any sense? If this is right, I probably have a bad passenger side switch, just not sure which passenger side switch is the problem.

Thanks guys,
Mach

Thanks guys,
Msch

that little switch on the back door is not the door switch. That little lever is like a safety switch for the rear door handle. The door switch is still mounted in the front door. You have to remove the door panel to replace it.

hey, thanks for the info

So the door switch must work of the rod that enters the door from inside the door frame. Several folks have told me to soak it with WD40, and that usually will fix the door ajar problem.

GReat info,
Thanks,
Mach
