F250 diesel help

2001 F250 4x4 diesel, 107,000. After approximately 1 minute, rpm increases to about 1200. After tapping the accelerator; returns to normal idle rpm. After another minute raises again. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Does it do it in the mornings when cold? If so it is completely normal. The idle raises to get EGT's up. There also is a valve built into the turbo to aid in the heating up of the motor. Makes it sound wierd. Kinda like it is hissing at you.

Thanks

I noticed it in Illinois while bow hunting last week. It was real cold in the mornings and haven't noticed it in Houston when I got back. Seemed odd, because when I tap the accelerator; it returns to normal idle. I hope you are right. I sincerely appreciate the info. Thanks

It is completely normal. It will also quit if you hit the brake. Next time it does it, if it decides to get cold here in texas, hit the brake and you'll see.
