My truck is stuck in 4 wheel drive, a week ago I turned the knob to 4H and it went into 4H fine but when I went back to 2H it stayed in 4H and the indicator light still says 4H. I checked the fuses and they are fine does anyone know what to check next?

Before you go crazy checking all kinds of stuff, check to see if the switch itself is still good. A bad switch can drive you nuts. If the switch checks out, then you will have the check the actuator on the transfer case itself. These go out every now and then, and are not too hard to replace.

The switch checked out ok so I took it to the Ford dealer 2 weeks ago and was told the the GEM modual (sp) was bad and it is behind the dash so the dash had to be removed and it will be almost $800 to fix. I told them to fix it but I think I am getting hosed on this.

if it is behind the dash then it is going to be alot of work to get to it. over half of that bill is going to be the labor charge, i bet the part is less than 150 dollars. just remember time is money.

yeah, if you have experience, or have a frend with experience, dont go to the dealer! it will cost you alot more money, and it takes forever and a day. just buy the part and fix it yourself.
