what oil and how much?

i'm about to change the oil on my friend escape and he doesn't have his owners manual, so im not sure how much and what weight oil to use..

it's an: '03 escape with a 3.0 v6.

i'm thinkin about 5qts. of 5w-30. but not sure.

anyone know????

sounds good, but i would check the dipstick after the third or fourth quart to be on the safe side. once it hits the full line start it and top it off if needed.
edit: make sure you don't mix up which oil it needs, not sure if ford is using synthetic or not.

thanks... i already changed it, and it took 6 1/2qts. and i bought 5w-30. and when i went to change it, the oil cap said "5w-20". but i went ahead and used the 5w-30 . i don't think it will hurt it, i figured it will probably be better for it since its constanty below 30 degrees outside.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it's 'colder' and you want to change viscosity, shouldn't you use a thinner oil to adjust to the colder temp?

Yes, bj went the wrong way. Going to 5W30 on an engine designed for 5W20, particularly in cold weather, is dead wrong. Maybe it IS rocket science.

yeah i know, i was thinking upside down when i changed the oil... i thought about it when i was changing it but i didn't feel like going back to exchange it. but it wont hurt the truck..
