| Howdy. Can any of you vets give me some real deal reasons why I should NOT buy a '97 F150 4x4 with the 4.6? I am usually not one to buy a truck that is the first model year run of a new generation, but so far I haven't seen too much to say it's a bad idea. Am I smarter to buy '98+?? |

| I have had great luck with my 97, had the normal service wear like the water pump, starter, and alternator but I have 299,000 + miles on it. As you can see in my post I have it in the shop now for a GEM mod. but this could happen to any model truck of this age. |

| I could be mistaken but its just a new body style for the 97. I would be leary about a first year run vehicle if it was entirely new with new motor and tranny and such. Look at the 01 Focus. Good car but lots of little problems in the first year run. But think of this. a 97 is 10 years old and all the meanufacturing defects(if any) should be worked out/fixed by now.

| My reason would be cause the 4.6 IMO it is too small a motor to be in a full size pickup.

| Most of it depends on what you want to do with the truck. Are you going to be driving it or are you gonna be working it?

| 390fe, I read your signature, and it made me laugh, were you trying to express the accent from New-England? I used to live in Maine, and I miss hearing the H's on the end of words like car, bar, here, and so on. it made me laugh.
