    7.3L hard start when cold

My 97' F-250 doesn't like to start when it get below about 35 degrees. I've replaced the glow plugs and the relay so i think that system is working. When it is cold it take several cranks of the engine for it to even start smoking. I'm wondering if it could be weak injectors or a weak oil pump. the truck has 225,000 miles and to my knowledge has had no work done to the motor. Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated

You can have the injectrs buzz tested, or have injector pressure tested, but either way gonna have to take it to a diesel shop.

you might want to wait and think like a truck driver. diesel fuel is thicker than gas. if you have a tank warmer then the fuel would be thiner in the cold weather and easier to start. the colder it is the thicker your fuel will be and harder to start unless you have a tank warmer to keep the fuel warm. hope that helps out

my dad has the 6.o powerstroke in his and in the winter time when i used to live in ohio, he plugged it in. there should be a plug in the front under the grille or in it, but if there isnt, get an electrical dip stick so you can heat the engine oil. does this help any?

is the oil level for the HPOP full? Sometimes the checkvalve leaks, and allows the level to go low, and it has to fill again while the truck is cranking over. It would indicate a cold start problem, when in reality it is a level problem, and easily fixed with a new check valve.
Some of the 7.3's also had a CPS troubles. I believe that tach should rise to about 100 rpm while cranking.
Although I doubt the CPS is the trouble, I do believe the reservoir level could be giving you trouble.

alot of the 7.3's have the cps problem but generally it is indicated by the truck will start one time but not the next and if you do get it started it will cut off while driving
