| Paint Job Repairs My husband had his SUV keyed while we were at the Dog Park. It is a single scratch about a foot long and various depths. Short of taking it in for a paint job (auto body work), are there any tips/tricks to fix this to a) protect from rust and b) maintain appearance. |

| some parts of it may be buffed out as long as it didn't go past the clear coat. if they really dug down and it is to the metal, then the easiest fix is crayon until you can get it to a body shop. my manager at work just bought a car that was keyed. some one was good with a key, cause they were able to spell some pretty profane words. i will probably have to repaint the whole drivers side of the car when she has the funds.

| Is this a metallic paint Dax? Often times what I have done in this situation was to buy the touch up paint from the local auto supply, and lightly add paint to the scratch, using it as a filler for the deep scratch. Once enough paint has been applied, I then carefully wet sand the area to even the area out. Really have to be carefull to take a bunch of time here, since you do not want to remove too much paint, or clear coat. Anyway, maybe you get the idea, it is worth a try. The bottom line is that you want to seal the exposed area from the elements so it will not start to corrode. I have made many repairs like this. Some have turned out better than others, but all were not too bad, and was difficult to tell that anything so major was ever there. I ask about matallic paint because this is next to impossible on metallic paints. Wet sanding is very difficult as more pigment is removed, and will leave a bunch of metallic behind. This will really make it look bad. Sorry to hear that someone was not very nice to your ride. I hate that. |

| We'll have to try something. They way I look at it, we might as well try it ourselves first. It if doesn't look right, then the whole panel can be repainted. It is a real pain since it is just so senseless. People can really be jerks. |
