Headers

Alright heres a more debatable preference question for everyone. So I have a 00 Silverado 4.8 for those who remember me. So I've got a 40 and Im lookin to do headers and cats go bye bye

So: Shortys with a straight Y-Pipe or Long Tubes? All the input I can get would be much obliged
Thanks everyone

if you loase the cats your check engine will come on almost immediatly. You are not goiing to "feel" any difference without them. if you live in NY, it'll never pass the OBDII inspection.

long tube and true duals for performance... shorties are more of fancy replacement manifolds, but like skylark mentioned, long tube will not pass inspection depending on where you live due to the no 02 sensor outlet. shorties will generally pass inspetcion, though

yeah see I talked 2 my dad about stuff like that. I live in Arizona so its not like were the cleanest state there is haha but we're actually not too polluted. But I figured if I get the long tubes and put the 1 & 2 sensors in it and let 3 & 4 get clean o2 it should be fine right?

The problem isn't mounting the sensors. It will throw catalyst ineffeciency codes almost right away, since there will be no catalyst action. Headers really are not going to make it sound different either,

I would say headers wouldn't be worth it the time or cost. your not going to feel a difference other than your wallet being lighter. unless you plan on serious upgrades in the future.

nothing real serious.. program this.. intake that.. maybe a manifold down the ways and then in a couple yrs a pro charger.. So headers completely non essential?

Shorty headers with a good Y pipe a new muffler will be the best my brother has a 5.3 he true dueled it with long tube headers and lost low end plus he had to place cat elimators so that the truck would run. I have seen on Ebay some seller I think it's S&S sells stainless headers at a good price and there good one's according to the feedback people have left him. Get your engine tuned with someone that can do it using there lap top he also changed out the cam and installed a stall converter and runs slicks at the track with 10'' wheels he say's that it hooks up real good with the gears he's running. Good luck!
