| Effects of incorrect jump starting? The topic of jump starting came up over on the horse forum, I was just wondering, what would be the effects to the good battery (and everything else) if you hooked hooked up the jumpers backwards? Good battery dies, just sparks, possible computer fry or all of the above?

| all of the above, and if your unlucky enough it could cause the good or bad battery to explode.

| Only seen it once - don't ever want to see it again. Guy I was with installed a battery backwards with reversed polarity on a ski lift backup system (28 battery config) We were outside the battery room when he energized for the test. Wound up in the snow 15' from the tower we were on. Wasn't the blast tho, fear makes you a good jumper. Moral of story: uh, bad idea... Have seen folks make a striking type contact with reversed batts and only get big sparks, but I wouldn't bet my eyes on it. |
