Silverado Ram Sierra Ok so I am looking into a new truck, nothing spectacular, (4X4 if they give me a good deal) toss up between Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, or Dodge Ram 1500. I'm not really up on the new truck info and I know that people are mostly partial, however I've only owned Ford and Chevy so as for the others I'm a little unedicated. Still any input would be great.

Welcome to the site: Maybe a little insight on how you intend to use your truck, and a basic run down on wants VS needs. Curious why the F-150 was not in the running? As much as I hate to ask,,,, were the imports in the 1/2 ton rated market left out on purpose as well?

Well I used to drive a 92 f150 xlt, and i loved it, however i've not been impressed with the new f150 recently well the last few years atleast. few guys i work with at the firehouse have the 07-08 150's and are cool with them but not completely enthused. As for the imports I am not really a big fan of many, mainly a domestic man. Not opposed just preference. When it comes to use, I want it to last a good amount of time will probly keep it to pay it off. Light towing and hauling nothing major nice boat. construction type materials for minor repairs and projects. Some LIGHT off roading, i.e. beach and open field no major trails. However it will be my daily driver so it needs to stay practical which I personaly do not concider a 10 inch lift with 36 inch tires a practical thing so it will remain mostly stock with some minor modifications.

Well that is fair enough. I happen to like the new 150's except for the rear springs. They seem to be a little soft for me, and the valving of the stock shocks are for the birds, however they are a pleasure to drive. I can tell you that the hemi truck runs very well, but does have a tendancy to wander and struggle a little with a trailer. Firsthand experience with different trucks, s it was not just a problem with one vehicle. Coincidence, maybe, but not likely. As for power, the thing makes good power, but struggled a bit at highway speeds. The chevy trucks I think have the best overall spread of power, design, creature comforts, and reliability. The chevy truck probably has the worst empty ride, but with a trailer handles very well, and does not mind pulling them. The engine is a proven workhorse, and the transmissions are up to most tasks (in stock trim). Because the rear brakes are still offered as drums has me shaking my head, and am glad that ford has thier stuff figured out, but a silverado, or sierra with the optional rear disc brakes has my choice. Am not happy that the chevy still uses such small differentials in the 1500 series, but again in stock trim, the 4x4's seem to be alright. Well, before I get too long winded, i think the GM vehicle would not be a bad choice. I am partial to the current chevrolet over the GMC. Anyway, my $.02.
