CB install for 97' chevy

it took me awhile to decide where i wanted to mount my CB and i had finally decided on putting it in the dash where the factory Cobby(sp) hole, that's not really good for anything is.

the easiest way to remove the Cobby(sp) hole, is to remove the radio and climate control, then use a screw driver to depress the tabs to free it from the dash. i did it in the opposite order, which made it more difficult to remove.

once freed, i test fitted the CB for depth and every thing checked out.

the radio and climate control were then removed so the CB bracket could be installed. if you didn't mess up in the first step like i did, then the radio and climate control should already be out.

mounted in it's new home, waiting to be wired up and the connection of the antenna.

the seat was removed with an air impact, 6 inch extension and swivel socket to make routing the antenna under the carpet easier. don't forget to unbolt the seat belts from the cab also (they come out with the seat). this step took less than 5 minutes.

next you need to get a stepped drill bit and decide on a location where your antenna will enter the cab. once the antenna is fished through the hole, insert your grommet or apply a silicone sealant. (your choice)

the finished install. it almost looks as if it was made to go there. this is a cheap Cobra CB radio. please note other brands may not fit as easily and could involve some trimming.

between a pizza break, rewiring my head unit and a rain delay (had to drag the seat in the garage) this project took about 3 hours.
