Washable/reuseable air filters?
Are there any other good washable air filters besides K&N? With all the smoke up here in Northern California my car is bogging down severely (nearly died a couple times on takeoff) and since they are predicting it will be this way until our first good rain storm (mid-Sept maybe) I figure it would be worth the money to get a washable/reusable filter. I would prefer something you can get locally at a Kragens type store.
In the past I have always used K&N but I figured I would open up my options maybe look at other brands.

What style filter are u using?
Is this a stock replacement, or is it a conical type filter for use with a cold air system? Is there a reason that you are considering another brand? Has the K&N let you down, or failed? Aem's dry filter flows fairly well when it is clean, and requires no oil. Not a bad idea, but your local supplier is probably not going to carry them. I suspect that since you are looking for a performance type filter, you might have a flat panel stock replacement requirement, right? I aske because in high dust, and high particulate environmemts, a pre-filter is the way to go. These are real easy to clean, and slip right over most aftermarket type air filters. |

its actually a Saturn, but I figured its a universal question car/truck.Never had any issues with K&N but I figured I would keep my options open just in case the local parts store is out or they had something better for a better price.

I see. The old hot rod saturn trick huh?
I am still a fan of the K&N filter, and your local parts house should carry this. It is a common filter for GM vehicles. Too bad about the fires up there. We had it real bad down here in So Ca. not too long ago, and I had to evacuate twice in the last few years. Once is too much, I do hope you are safe up there. Hats off to the firemen and women! |

I have an AEM in my Mazda... I have cleaned it with the K&N stuff a few times, but seems to hold up. And it was only 18 bucks off the shelf at Advance auto. I am not sure if the final performace is the same as K&N but it gives the sound and longevity I was looking for.
![]() not a good piucture, but that was after the third cleaning. And yes, filter was always blue....LMAO

Ohh.. let soup up the Uranus, err I mean Saturn.. maybe I can pull 20's in the 1/4 mile.
Check out the Moon from last week... (I did photoshop the black to be a little more black) ![]() The sun and sky ![]() The smoke.. I have a better one on my camera phone.. I'll have to phone it later, this was taken when it was late afternoon and not a cloud in the sky, it should be bright and blue ![]() As much as we want a breeze to knock down the smoke, we don't because we know it just makes the fires worse.

20's in the 1/4 mile... That is hillarious! Only becuase my brother actually did that before he left for the Air Force! An Automatic 4-door even! It was comical... totaled it though and got an eclipse... much better ride for the toys. However, now that he is back, the new toy is a brand new Cobalt. Will have to wait and see where that one goes! LOL.
