Carbs, which do you prefer?

I just wanted to start this for fun. I am faced with an offer and could use some ideas.

I drive a 78' C-10 Chevy with a 350, 4 bbl (Rochester)

My neighbors dad told me tonight that he thought I had junk in my jets and that I could have his 650 Holley single pumper to put on my truck and I could have it. I have only had two other Holleys in my life.

So should I try the Holley or try getting mine cleaned out?

And which type carb would you prefer today if we all still run carbs?

My self, I prefer Edlebrock or Carter. Carter being my fav....

I know there are others but this is my first poll and I did not allow myself enough room for that. SORRY

edlebrock, so easy to adjust, holley will probly outperform an eddy but you got to tune it which i`ve heard is less than fun, lots of setup i guess...either ones gonna work, i had bad lcuk with rochesters, rebuilt ones from a certain manufacturer...

I am too young to really have to deal with this issue, but if I were to have a carb'd ride, It would probably be a restoration project, and in which case I would be looking for real performance, and in which case, from what I have learned or read on this, I would chose Holly for a build. But edelbrock from what I understand is more reliable and easier to work on... so kind of a tossup there...

I have always used edlebrock because of their ease of tuning. That Holley single pumper will do good also and will not be as hard to tune as a double pumper.

I read, and hear about Edelbroks being easier to adjust, and so forth, but they really are not. They still have metering rods that have to be replaced. This procedure requires almost the same effort as replacing jets in a Holley.
Holleys offer a killer veriety of boosters, and metering configurations to totally dial in perfect performance. Holleys are crazy reliable, and are a very easy carb to work on, and tune.
My vote is with the Holley. Anything else is just a carb.
Most of my Holleys do not even have a choke horn, and even my engines equiped with Dominators start without a problem, and will idle until they run out of gas.
I have developed a real comfort level with Holleys.

I am glad to hear that the single pump may not be as hard to tune. I always had trouble tuning a Holley but that is not my area. So I am not real great at it. I think once I get home I will give the ol Holley a try. I had one on a Malibu years ago. It would hesitate if you dropped the hammer from idle, but only for a split second and then that ride was like none other I have ever ridden. Man that carb would help that engine make power.

Hammer

yeah. I have run both edelbrocks, and holleys.

In my experience I can tune an edlebrock easier than a holley. Holley's are not hard but all my experience has been elsewhere. Holleys are great carbs if you can tune em right!
