| ebrake oops... so i left my parkin brake set on the coldest night of the year, and now my BRAKE and ABS lights are stuck on even when the brake is off. i'm positive the BRAKE light is just a stuck sensor/switch and my brakes havent locked up so I'm betting the ABS light is stuck on for the same reason... anyone know where these sensors are on a 97 nissan XE, and if just thawing them out with a heat gun will unstick em or do i need to have the sensors/switches reset or (God forbid) replaced? thanks

| there is more than one switch/sensor on most vehicles that can trip those lights. it could be the switch at the pedal(s), master cylinder, hubs, ect......... it's best to pull the codes, it could be anything from a ground wire all the way up to a bad wheel speed sensor. you could always hope for warm weather and the thaw solves the problem, but nothing is ever that easy.

| Can you get it in somewhere? kick on a space heater let it thaw and see if your problems go away. When it warms up check your cables, it sounds like 1 has a possible start of seizure issue

| a frozen cable wouldn't trip the BRAKE or ABS light though. edit: you think a frozen e-brake could hold the shoes out and the prop valve is sensing a pressure difference? that might trip both lights. ![]()

| Mud next time you have an e-brake you know is good, like on your sisters' blazer, click it till the light goes on and see what happens, as the rear wears and is not fully adjusted, the lights can come on with out brake drag, therefore depending on the system, if the abs senses a parking brake will it kick the ABS on???? I'm not a Nissan person just some thoughts

| that's just it though, if you click your e-brake on until the light comes on, your other brake lights shouldn't come on if the system is working properly. people do it all the time to turn off their DRL's. i just can't see an e-brake setting off the ABS light, but i've been known to be wrong. personally, i would pull the codes and check the fluid level. a leak would set off the sensor at the prop valve and any air could work it's way into the ABS valves.

| thanks for the responses guys. i havent noticed any issues when driving so im tempted to wait til the first good thaw and pick it up from there if the problem persists, but your recommendations are all much appreciated
