Price a dealer would pay Does anyone here know about how much less, percentage or dollars, a new car dealer pays for tires? For example BFG T/A 31x10.5 by 15.

A new car dealership is not in the tire market, so they do not actually get this type of tire at a discount. Manufacturers have a package deal that will provide special pricing to the auto maker, but this is based upon a huge volume number. This is why you see certain tires on brand new vehicles. You will not find too many brand new vehicles with BFG T/a's. You may find some trail T/A's, but not M/T's nor A/t's. These tires, shall I say are considered specialty tires, and are not quiet enough on the road to be considered OEM type tires. I buy tires at a volume cost, I even get some for free. I was one of the first to recieve some pit bull rockers, and had the first set of 52" boggers. The tire market is so competitive that there is really not much mark up in them. This is why you dont see total blow out prices that are far lower than anyone else. If a dealership can make a 50% margin on tires, they would not be in the car business, they would be in the tire business. Mark up on tires is not as much as one would thing. Some high volume places only make single, and I mean low single digit margins. There is no reason for a new car dealership to recieve any type os discount.

i worked at a tire shop before i moved the scott city. we had a 20-30% markup on all the tires. if they were in stock it made a differance if you bought 2 or 4. if we had to make a special order for them it depended on if we were competing with some one else. but for the most part we made 30% on the tires. now as emploees if we bought from the shop it was 10% over cost. but we could also buy them off the truck at cost. but you had to pay right then and not go on an acount.
