| Painting the truck soon, need advice! Ok. Once I get my 79 Ford back I want to paint it. My grandma said it looks ****** brown. lol. I want to paint it a battleship grey or grey- whatever. I am planning to use spray paint since I don't have a spray gun or air compressor. I need to know how to do this so I won't screw up. I know I need to sand all of the old paint off and get rid of much rust as I can. I got to patch some holes up too! Do I get primer next? Then after primer what else? Know what kind of good paint I should use and could get ahold of easy? Thanks. |

| go to harbour freight and buy an enexpensive high vol low pressure spray gun, fix your dents first, clean up the rust and neutralize it next, then sand it so the paint sticks

| Harbor freight? The only thing we have around here in WalMart. Maybe Lowes will have one but I don't have an air compressor though. |

| we used to shoot lacuer with a wagner airless and the paint turned out good. If you want a professional looking paint use the right equipment. But if your area is clean and you take your time the airless will make it look better than it does now.

| these guys are all correct. esp brad about the honey with money. definitely want to get yourself set up with the right equipment. spray cans just simply can't protect metal like properly mixed paint does. you'll have rust spots before the end of the week with spray cans. once you've got the tools, check out Napa or VIP and ask about their Fleet colors, which are way cheaper than factory colors, and im sure gray is one they offer. and dont forget the number 1 rule of painting: 90% of the work is in the PREP! take the time to do it right the first time, and no matter what color you choose, when you're finished your truck will look great and it'll be well worth the extra time and money... and i guarantee it'll be ten million times better than if you did it with spray cans.
