| I have a 1991 Ford F350 Custom, it doesnt run can't find the problem but ive been thinking of putting another engine in it. The truck has a 351 windsor engine right now. but is it possible to put a Dodge Cummins engine in instead? Austin1011 |

| not without another tranny. that windsor does need to come out of that 1 ton nonetheless. why a dodge engine?? you dont want a half breed, i promise. |

| the windsor is a good engine that ford came out with but is not well known for putting out torque numbers. they were an excellent placement in the lincoln lines, not to be confused with lincoln logs, due to excellent mileage and smooth running. finding replacemtent parts is also great for this motor. being a one ton, you are looking for something with a longer stroke than what that windsor is putting out. you are going in the right direction in looking for a new more friendly powerplant but with the compatibility difficulities, especially when it comes to turning a wrench, you wont be happy with it. why not go with a power stroke?? not all power strokes were jokes. |

| We have a 351W in my wifes F250 and it runs strong and has pulled everything we have hooked to it. Although I am impressed with that engine we are planning a Cummins swap for that truck. I already have the engine and several other parts. I will say this, get the truck running before you try that swap. You may find that 351 fits your needs just fine. If big power is something you just have to have and you think a Cummins will do it then more power to you. But you better have amazing fab skills and or deep pockets. Right off the bat Cummins 12 and 24V 5.9's are very popular. It seems like every one who can turn a wrench wants to drop one in what ever they are driving. With that kind of demand comes a high price. But that is nothing compared to what you will spend on parts and peices to fit in your Ford. There is a lot to think about and you have better be skilled enough to figure out the ends and outs of the swap. Those 5.9's do not just drop in even with all the adapters the aftermarket has. I have seen a lot of good trucks ruined because some brain dead idiot jumped into something he was not ready for. A Powerstroke or better yet a 7.3 IDI would be a better fit because hey, they came in Fords. But again, a lot of work and money will have to be put out. In the long run you would be better off just buying a truck that already has one in it. It will be cheaper and you will be on the road a lot sooner.
