If you had $2,000...

I just landed a sweet little contract that will net me about $3,000 for a week's work. The g/f and I want to pay off a few bills with part of it, but I'll still have about $2,000 left, and I want to do a few things on my truck. Here's my "wish list" so far:
  • Front & rear brakes (about $150)
  • New shocks ($280)
  • New front tires and an alignment (about $500)
  • Replace the multifunction switch and ignition switch that have been acting up (about $300)
  • Install an "arrowstick" on the back (traffic control warning light - about $150 used)
What else would you guys suggest?

Here's a picture of the truck...

I'm seriously considering a set of rims and new tires all around, but that would cost almost the full $2,000

These rims are $650 for a set...

And so are these...

1986 Yamaha Virago - $2300 (Marbach/1604)

I am selling my 1986 Yamaha Virago 1100. It is completely custom with an aftermarket tank, fender, wheels, and custom hardtail rear end. About the only thing still stock are the forks. The motor is from a 1993 Virago, as the original frame held a 750 I believe. The bike has 28000 miles but only about half of those are on the new motor. Carbs just got rebuilt last month and she's a screamer now. This is a bike you must truly see to appreciate. If you are interested, I am selling it for $2300 obo. New work hours and the inability to put a carseat on it force a sale. Give me a holler at 702-423-3280 if you would like to take a look at it. Thank you.

I am thinking you need to go up on your front and rear brake estimate, but your front tires and alignment estiamte is awful high, so it probably works out even.
What Leo said, I thinik if I were outta the woods, and all bills current, I'd put $1500 of it in one of the failing banks for a rainy day in this economy and blow $500 of it for a pat myself on the back for a job well done. Glad to see someone has something bright happening for them. I wish I had that problem. What to do with $2000. That would get me current on everything righth now with the progress I am making with 5 part time jobs.

I sure hope you are careful JeemC. You know you can get in a lot of trouble selling your perscribed Viarga over the internet. Sure is a big lot though for $2300. All them #'s, I am still trying to understand how many you are selling. Is it 1980, 1993 or 1100 that you are selling for $2300.

GMC, if I rode anymore I'd be seriously interested in your bike. But with a bum left knee there's no way I can ride these days. Heck, I have a difficult enough time just walking.

As for saving for a rainy day... We already do that; this is surplus "mad money".
(We live on what my g/f makes, she's a GS-14, and that's what we budget on. Anything I make goes into the bank, or gets used for "special purchases". We decided that this $2,000 should be spent on the vehicles, and since my truck needed a few things that's where it's going)

On the brakes, that price was for the parts and getting the drums and rotors cut. I'd do the work myself. The price for the front tires and alignment was based on $200 per tire + $40 tax, and $60 for the alignment.

just done the brakes on hers, now yours. you are now labeled as the brake expert. the only thing not listed in the OP, was the arrow stick. seems like half the money is going into replacement parts. might as well go through the whole thing shile you are there. things may get hard and with new parts on there, you will be less likely to worry about something giving out.
