    distributor gear wear

what would cause a distributor gear wear, where only 1/3 of gear is wore down to nothing, yes the other teeth are wearing about a sixteenth off tooth. This just doesn't make any sense to me at all?Name: Picture 23.jpg

If it is out of a chevy vortec a common problem. Dist. gear made of soft composite metal.
Gets wore mostly on one side from cold starts.. oil pump torque..especially if not using 5w-30 oil in cold climate.

Gitter done have fun. Running on empty...running blind...running behind.....

wow! yeah its out of a vortec 5.7 liter engine. GMC c/k 2500, what is this gear metal made in china or something? Is a autozone replacement worth it or is there a better alternative. Thanks for your help!

What year? These gears are soft metal cheap gm gears. You need to get a melonized gear a steel gear that has been treated/melonized.
Vortec have cast cams ...have to have a steel cam for cast cam. Cast ..gear for a steel cam. Can not run steel against steel or cast against cast.
Will not last long . What engine 305 or 350. have part numbers .
