Wink Dim Headlights

Hi, I am new to this forum and I need info about a possible problem with a 2001 Toyota Sequoia. My sequoia has 85,000 miles on it and I have never had any problems to date. Recently I noticed that the headlights would get brighter when I stepped on the gas pedal - didn't think to much of it. Then, my brother was using the reading light yesterday while I was driving, and when I stepped on the gas the reading light also got brighter. Never noticed this before. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Riley

I would assume it has something to do with your alternator. My Heep did that too, and I changed the alternator and it stopped.

Good luck!!

Thanks, I will have that checked. Battery is only 6 months old, so I knew it was not that.

check the alternator, but if it is in good condition......it is definately a grounding problem. 1st instinct, is alt. 2nd is grounding problem(also check battery connections all are tight clean etc etc etc.) then tighten the belt that drives the alternator if possible. hope that helps.

It is possible that you gat a bad battery. Does the new battery have at least the same rating as the one replaced? I'm guessing it does but just asking to get you thinking

A simple voltage check while running will answer alot of questions. No I do not recomend throwing parts at it without properly diagnosing it. Idling voltage should be around 13 volts or better. Give it a little rev and see if it increases. Then turn on everything electric you can including A/C and all lights and check again. If voltage is correct, the its a ground. if not it could be alternator, voltage regulator, or an open in the wiring. battery would be insignificant when running as the charging system powers everything when the motor is running.
