| Looking for first truck I am lookin for my first truck. I am thinking of either a 98-01 dodge 1500 4x4 or 99-00 chevy 1500 4x4. My only issues with the chevys are price and ground clearance. My issues with the dodge are fuel economy, weight=less performance and i heard the trannys aren't very dependable. Can you guys please give your opinions and experiences with these trucks to help me decide, thanks. |

| What don't you like about the chevy ground clearance? The Chevy has better ground clearance than the Dodge from what I can tell, with the IFS the way it is designed you have tons of clearance in the front. I'd recommend going with better fuel economy specially since gas ain't goin down in the near future...what are you wanting the 4x4 for? If you want something for offroading and street/economically friendly, go with a toyota man, you can thank me later

| Welcome to the forum Ive never heard of Dodges being known for tranny issues. Some have had some gas line type issues but not tranny. I know my first truck was an 02 Dodge (still is) and I never looked back. Go with what suits you best and what fits what you're using it for best. Goodluck!!

| 3 trannies in less then 100k?? Either hes doing some serious abuse on that truck or thats a serious lemon and definitely not a norm for any make of vehicle. He should use the lemon law.

| All manufacturers have there flawed trucks. I heard of a new Chevy with the Allison. My room mate(a tow truck driver) ended up towing it because the tranny went when the guy was test driving it with under 10 miles on it. My cousin owns a tranny shop and say he changed plenty of Explorer trannies and has rebuilt a few Allisons also. Never asked about Dodge and he was never working on one when I was there. |

| As you can clearly tell by my signature i am for chevys, I have heard alot of negatives about the dodge trannies as well as requiring atf+4 tranny fluid the costs 7 dollars a quart, leave it up to moped (um sorry thats mopar)...as for the earlier statement about toyotas, I say stay american, At least you can hold your head high when you drive it. |
