Its just a commercial. Doesnt mean anything, Do you expect to buy a bolder if you buy a chevy? (the chevy anthem "Like a rock " playing in the background.) It was an advertisment ploy to get you to buy a truck. Thats why they pay advertisers such big bucks. They are the same truck

It has been my understanding, and CG you jump in here if I am mistaken, back in the day (and I mean in the 50's and 60's) that GMC was more of a farm truck (not as nice inside) and Chevy was more of a city truck (a little nicer). The other difference I have heard is the old GMC (same era) had 1.6 ratio rocker arms and Chevy had the 1.5 ratio (can't imagine why, just what I have heard). Point is for the last 30 or so years, there hasn't been two bits worth of difference between Chevy and GMC.

I dont recall that differences you speak of in the old days, but since at least 1967 thay have been the same truck.

I've always been told that back in the day like shopratles said 40-60's or what have you, that GMC were a heavier duty pickup. I really would like to know what the difference between them was.

Back in the day GMCs were a different truck. Look at a Chevy and GMC truck from the 40s or 50s and on the exterior the differences alone are quite a bit. GMCs were a heartier truck then. Like Chevyguy said though....GM has kind made the Chevys and GMCs the same. I got a '96 GMC and my dad had a '98 Chev z71. My GMC does have some things my dad's doesn't ie, i've got a light in the engine compartment that has like a 15' extension on it for inspection the car at night (my bro chev '89 had one too, but not my dad's '98), a little "storage box in the place of where you could mount a 2nd battery if u wanted to (also, i don't know if it is a diff or if GM quit puttin those things in), but for preformance and styling, there's not much difference....other than the Siliverado and Sierra SLE trim or something

I have that space for another battery and a light in my engine compartment. Pretty nifty huh? I thought they would have had that in the Chevy.

Same truck, Neither were made heavier duty unless you look ate a 3/4 ton versus a 1/2 ton. Change the grills and tailgates and you would never know the difference. They caould al lbe ordered with different options, But fully dressed they were identical with options and performance

my dad's gotta 96' silverado, i've gotta 99' suburban (both chevy) he has the little plastic storage box in the engine compartment that yall were speakin of, mine has the spot for the extra battery ( i never thought of it as that, i just thought you could keep some spare oil / water or sumthin sittin there) my dads also has the light with the extension on it, where as mine doesnt ( all though it could have one it, the bolt holes are already there. so i'm with CG, same truck, diff logo...... but i do think that back in the day there was a difference, GMC work, chevy "luxury"

Same truck as ChevyGuy said. Sheetmetal and badging are the only differences.

back in the 70's every seventh truck that went down the production line got gmc emblems on it. now they are made different. gmc holds it's value longer than chevy.
