Question Chevy vs GMC

Is'nt Chevy and Gmc basically the same truck, I mean they are both made by the same company. I have always thought of the GMC as a more professional grade of Chevy, like there comercials basically say. I noticed on a poll in here that the Chevy trucks are way more prefered than the GMC though, just trying to make some sence out of the difference.

Exactly the same. Just swap the grill and tailgate. No difference.

You know and it never made much sence to me why company's do that, you have chevy trucks and gmc trucks that are the same, you have the ford thunderbird and mercury cougar basically the same. In the seventies The Ford Granada and Mercury Monarch the same. To me this is strange, does'nt make much sence to me. I say just have one or the other. There are probably other identicles out there too.

Well It gives the company another venue for sales, Someone might be a die hard mercury enthusiast ,By ford doing this it gives them an avenue to sell this car to both ford and mercury people without having to retool a factory. Just buy a few option pieces and there you have it, 2 cars to sell for the price of one.

Back in the day the different brands were the trim levels for the big companies. Chevy - GMC, Chevy-Pontiac-Oldsmobile-Cadillac, Ford-Mercury-Lincoln. Most of their cars between the brands were the same they were just a little better as you went up the ladder. Now its a market share thing people grew up with certain brands and that what their use to so thats what they buy. The distinction isnt as much between brand as it is model. Chevy GMC and Caddy still follow the structure Sierra are trimmed a little better than Silvarados, Denalis and Yukons better than Tahoes and Burbs and Caddies better then both. It is basically just a trim thing.

I dont agree with the trim level part of this. A fully loaded silverado has the same equiptment as a fully loaded sierra. They are the same animal.

They always say GMC is professional grade, that always made me think that the GMC is a chevy with stroger parts and design, thats the way the advertisement sounds.
