Length of time is up to the manufacturer and type of oil is up to you.

I was always told to wait until you get the engine completely broke in. I would wait atleast 2 oil changes.

Alot of new vehicles now come from the factory with synthetic oil already in them. Saying that your engine has to be broken in before you can use them I have heard is a myth. There is a large number of cars out there that have synthetic oil put in them right on the assembly line at the factory, the Corvette is one of them.

I think its a waste of money yeh the oil does not break down but still need to change the filter every 3k. I know of some of the medium size truck drivers and a tool guy that uses the synthetic oil he changes the filter every 3k tops off the oil but does not do a complete drain and fill til 30k. But you need to use a realy good filter like amsol. If you just change the oil and filter every 3k like you would do with normal oil its a total waste. But I'm with the truck guy the vettes come with synthetic in them from the factory. I would just say that if any of the chevys don't come with synthetic don't change over to it since it just makes them knock even louder and longer on start up with that watery synthetic oil.

I would still change the oil every 3000 miles, I just heard that it cut's down on the wear in your engine. I have never used it though, Im just looking for the best possible wear protection.
