Turn Signals out HELP!

I just bought a 1989 GMC SLE with a strange electrical problem.

Things that are wrong:
-Turn Signals do not work "Hazards do work"
-Dash says check gauges
-Green arrows in dash arrows indicating turn signals and flashers are always green except when flashers are on.... then they flash
-Blue in dash High beam indicator is on when low beams are on and off when high beams are on. "Basically Backwards"
-Fuel Gauge and battery gauge do not work when headlights are on
-Oil gauge does not ever work
-Backlight in dash does not work.

Things that work: Wipers: Cruise: all other electrical functions

I just really want to be able to use the Turn Signals any ideas?

Check your ground wires. It is usually a bad ground that causes electrical problems like that.

Thanks to my flaming pedles I put in my truck I have had the same problem. Check the bulbs and fuse. My flashers won't signal and its usually the backtail light is out. I use my ciggerette lighter or plug something into it and I blow that back light. Mine is a serious electrical wiring jobby done on my jeep but think it may be same problem with your truck

The head lights and tail lights seem to all be working. If it was a headlight or back light out would that cause my indicator on my dash to not work? When I try to put the turn siginal on it does not even show up on the dash meaning the green arrow does not even flash. Also where is the ground located?

The only light affected by my problem is the brake light. It causes my turn signals not to work or completely go solid(like they are on but not blinking but this happens only when my headlights are on) All it was on the beast was a brakelight was out. I had a guy in Tulsa Oklahoma in a serious traffic jam use my brake lights as a way to ask for a date, so I never knew when it was out unless someone told me or I turned on the signal and noticed them not blinking. I haven't 'uncovered' the cause but know I spend a lot of time changing bulbs. I actually keep a box of them in the garage.

I'd check the light switch itself and or the turnsignal switch. A loose ground could be causing it as well so keep that in mind.

Check the ground on your block. Then pretty much look for black wires under your dash, most likely they will be going to somewhere on the firewall and attached by a bolt of some sort (take in mind I am a ford person so I could be wrong about how Chevs normally do it). Check for any wires that may be hanging or loose under your dash.
