My truck is sluggish at wide open throttle.

88 GMC 1500 pickup
2 wheel drive
V8 5.0L/305

Ok aside from it being sluggish because of the 305, what do you think the problem is. Here's what i did before this started:

I needed to replace my exhaust flange gaskets where the y-pipe meets the manifolds. I snapped two of the bolts on the passanger side and could not drill them out so i decided to take the passanger manifold off so i can work on it like a gentleman. Well in an effort to get the manifold out of the truck, it was a bit of a struggle because the smog stuff was in the way. So, i just took the sawzall and cut all the smog stuff out of the way.

After reinstalling the manifold, i plugged all vacuum lines and crimped those 2 silver pipes closed. The smog pump is still blowing air out the top of itself, i figured that doesn't need to be plugged.

What would be causing the sluggishness. Does this truck have a computer to program the smog out or what? Was i supposed to crimp those lines closed?
Thanks for any help guys.

You can expect the engine not to run properly when you damage the "smog stuff". Its actually important to have this hooked up. Your best bet is to repair whatever damage you did. It is hooked into the trucks brainbox, and eventually it will register a service engine light. I had a Beretta that did the same thing when I messed with the emissions equipment.

Ok well hooking it back up is not an option.....Is there a way to program it out?

Sounds like it could be running too rich... OR it could be one of a million other things... sensors, etc.
