Engine Swap Hey guys, new to the forum here. Just had a quick question regarding engine swaps on an 03 model Sierra. Currently, my truck is Single Cab/Short Bed with the 4.8L but I was wondering if a 6.0L would fit. I havent researched it enough to see if it has been done but I figured it wouldnt be too much of a hassle to do. Thanks for any help!

Should fit....I don't know much about such things but I do know that there were multiple engine choices in 03 and 6.0l was one of them. I think its a bored out version of the 5.3l....which itself is a stroked 4.8. The 4.8 isn't a bad motor...has 270-295 hp stock with 285-300ft lbs. Your being an 03 its probably in the upper hp/tq ranges. The 6.0l produces 300-325hp and 360-375lb ft tq. They should all fit your truck. Even the 6.0l LQ9 should fit (Vortec MAX motor).

So essentially, a 6.0L should look the same on the outside as a 5.3 or 4.8? Although the hp difference isnt considerable the torque is really what would be noticable. Add a few performance goodies and it should be a screamin ride. This is all prelimary speculation and I havent seen anyone who has attempted this but I think it would be interesting to look at what sort of power could be harnessed. Thanks usmceric for the input, I'll have to start looking around more and see what others have done in this regard.

wouldn`t be suprised if you have to replace the computer, there may be companies that can take it and "redo" it for a 6 litre, otherwise, yeah bolter on!
