oil pressure

My oil pressure reads about 85 for around 6 minutes after starting truck before it will back down to 20 while at idle. During this time the truck make a soft squeeling noise. I realize the noise is not normal but what about the oil pressure? Its a 496.

Lets talk about what kind of truck you have a 496 CI engine in.
Is this simply a late model 8.1?
What type of oil are you running?
Do you believe the squeeling noise is related to any internal engine components?

Welcome (back) to the forum jacquesje83.
Is this the 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4x4 LB W/ 8.1L/496 that you got back in October ?
Oil pressure sounds kinda normal behavior, does it kick back up with rpm ?

It is the GMC Sierra 2500HD 4x4 LB W/8.1L/496. I'm not real positive about the oil type in the truck at the moment. It had an oil change right before I bought it and I have only put 1000 miles on it since. The oil level is fine and clean. The oil pressure usually flucuates with RPMs. sits at 20 until I'm moving then gets up to around 60 while I'm moving. The problem is that now it sits at the high pressure for a few minutes. While sitting still the engine is relatively quite. When I start to move the engine squeels then stops squeeling when I slow down until the pressure goes back to normal flucuations.

What weight oil are you using? I believe 5W-30 is the factory recommendation.
